More single women seeking love

WOMEN outnumbered the men at a matchmaking event which was held in Penang for the third year.

Seventy-five women and 45 males were looking for life partners in the ‘Cupid 4 Love 2010’ event organised by Junior Chamber International (JCI) Bayan at a hotel on Saturday.

The participants, with ages raging from 23 to 45, were initially shy when the masters of ceremony led them through an ice-breaking session called the ‘Cupid Roar’ where they had to shout out letters from the word ‘Cupid’.

The participants were later divided into groups for another game called ‘Seek and Find’ where each group had to gather items listed on a paper.

Members of the group who finished the task first were immediately given a prize each.

The participants then took part in a ‘speed dating’ session where a male and female were seated in front of each other.

They were given five minutes to get to know each other.

The programme, which started at noon ended at 11pm after a gala dinner.

In between, there were interactive and relationship building activities.

The guest-of-honour at the event, Pulau Tikus assemblyman Koay Teng Hai, earlier wished the participants “happy hunting” in his opening speech.

Programme founder Edmand Tan Kah Yeow said they had paired up more than 20 couples since the launch of the programme.

“One couple tied the knot last year and another this year,” he said.

He said the programme was open to single women aged between 21 and 45 and single men aged between 21 and 48.

“We have about 10 participants who are taking part in the programme for the third year. They are still looking for their right partners and find the programme interesting,” he said.

He said about 120 participants took part in last year’s event and about 100 in the first year.
